Loggerhead Sea Turtle Hatchlings: Sanibel Island, FL
It was pitch black as we walked along the beach towards the nest. We waited and waited, eagerly checking it for any signs of movement. Our patience finally paid off as a tiny Loggerhead sea turtle poked out from the sand! Using a red headlamp as my only light source (white light can disorient them) I photographed the hatchling as it crawled down to the ocean from the dunes, traversing piles of shells scattered along the beach and eventually making it to its new home beneath the waves.
